This summer I decided to enter a local arts contest, the San Ramon Arts Festival. My husband Dave helped me pick out one of my photos, a close-up of a Dave Chihuly glass art “object” at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The object is shaped like a shallot or onion; Chihuly, who is from Washington State, calls it a “walla walla.” It was floating on a pond with many other walla walls. I took the photo in April, when we were in St. Louis for my 50th birthday party.
Not only was my photo accepted into the gallery, it won first prize in photography. For that, I received a blue ribbon, a $50 check from the City of San Ramon, a wine opening set from the event sponsor, AT&T, and a hand shake from the mayor of San Ramon.
Fame is fleeting but it’s sweet.
For Christmas my mother took the JPG of my photo and had notecards printed with it at Kinkos. Thanks, Mom!
