About Me

Charla Gabert is a writer living in the San Francisco Bay area, where she is at work on her first memoir. Her writing has been published in the Boston Herald, the Chicago Review, Contra Costa Times, Ms. Magazine, the NY Times Sunday Magazine, Publishers Weekly, and the Utne Reader. 

She received an MA in creative writing from Johns Hopkins University, a MS in communications management from Simmons University (Boston), and a BA in semiotics from Brown University. 

She enjoyed a 26-year-long career in marketing and communications in the tech industry before retiring in 2011.

In 2006 she took her first mosaics class and discovered a new creative passion. She continues to make mosaics in her home studio and take classes and workshops in the US, Italy, and Mexico. In 2019 she started a podcast with a friend called “Shut the Fuck Up: We are not done talking yet!” about women’s silencing and other current topics. 

She and her husband live with a cat named Ellie Mae Clamcat and take frequent road trips in their Pleasureway Lexor RV van.

She loves nature, birding, and her local mountain Mount Diablo.
